Why did you decide to work for Shell?

I could foresee a career path packed with variety and adventure. I also recognised that Shell provides a good balance of valuing both individual and group effort.

What is your background and experience?

Quite simply - oil. When I was at college, I spent the summer as a 'roustabout' drilling on an oil rig. Since then, I've enjoyed a variety of roles as a petroleum engineer and a chemical engineer.

How would you describe your typical day?

One word - flexible. I'm responsible for the process I'm helping to develop, so I'm often on the phone with manufacturing sites in the USA. A large amount of my time is spent analysing data then passing it on to various levels of the company. Adding variety, I'm also involved in a host of special site projects around the world.

Have you received any training at Shell?

I've always received training that has complimented my role, but the area that has had the greatest impact on my career is the diversity training. I am now an Internal Diversity Facilitator and offer diversity classes along the west coast of the USA.

What do you like most about the job?

The variety, both in assignments and people. Learning about different cultures has been very rewarding and has added a new dimension to my understanding of Shell and the world.

What would you like to do in the future?

I enjoy visiting new places and discovering new cultures, so ideally I'd like an overseas assignment. This would allow me to immerse myself fully in a new country, not just as a visitor. I believe this would help me learn new things about myself, Shell, and the world as a whole.
