What is your current role at Shell?

I manage a finance department and am the focal point for OPMIS (Oil Products Management Information System) for Ethiopia. I am responsible for the maintenance of the product, customer and supply database as well as ensuring the timely preparation of management information reports. I also control the price database of all products for Shell Ethiopia’s customers. Additionally, I am charged with Group reporting on behalf of Sudan and Djibouti and work on the Commercial Profitability Analysis project for Shell Oil Products Africa.

What do you like best about your role?

I enjoy the challenges of my role and the chance to work as part of a global team. I joined Shell right after graduation and have enjoyed the opportunity to grow. Also, I was cross-posted to Sudan in 2000 as a management accountant and was involved in the system implementation for financial reporting.

Tell us about your background and experience

I graduated in Management from Addis Ababa University in 1998. After completing an additional computer course, I joined Shell and worked as a Ground Stocks Assistant handling inventories for Aviations and transport payments. I then moved into a planning role in Shell Ethiopia and worked as a management accountant. I then became the planning manager upon my return from Sudan, heading the team that I had left as a management accountant.

What makes you stay at Shell?

I enjoy working for an international company. I don’t feel like I am working remotely – I am part of Shell Ethiopia as well as Shell International. I get to travel, meet all different types of people and learn about different cultures. There is a sense of belonging here – Shell really invests in its people.
