What is your current role at Shell?

I am the VP of Finance and IT for Shell Lubes in the US – and I’m soon to be the CFO for Global Lubes. I’m responsible for a staff of about 500, split between Finance and IT. I’m engaged in areas such as business finance support, financial reporting, controls, credit and collections, SAP and other IT projects, monitoring synergy targets, planning and budgeting.

What do you like best about your role?

The broad spectrum of challenges. This role is unlike any I have experienced before – there’s something new every day.

Tell us about your background and experience

I joined Shell right out of college and held positions in the UK and the Netherlands for the first five years. After leaving to get an MBA at Stanford, I returned to Shell in Houston where I worked in corporate finance.

My current role is the first large scale operating finance job I have had to manage – unusual because I have spent so much of my career in corporate finance. The new challenge demonstrates the variety of career path opportunities Shell provides to professionals.

What makes you stay at Shell?

Primarily, the people I work with around the world, their integrity as well as the challenging work environment. Not only are they smart and fun to work with, but they are the sort of people who achieve things and believe in what they’re doing.

Secondly, I have had lots of opportunities to work with a diverse range of financial issues in varied industries all over the world.
