The Stanlow Manufacturing Complex is at the heart of Britain’s oil and chemical production industry. The only Shell refinery in the UK, it is a massive converter of crude oil into products that are the lifeblood of British Industries. Stanlow lies on the south bank of the Manchester Ship Canal near Ellesmere Port in Cheshire. It employs some 800 people and processes 12 million tonnes of crude a year, mainly from the North Sea. The refinery produces a range of oil products including about one sixth of Britain's petrol (about 4,000 million litres a year) and around 15,000 million litres of kerosene a year - enough to fuel 21,000 A300 airline planes. The refinery's crude oil arrives by tanker to Tranmere Oil Terminal on the south bank of the River Mersey. The crude oil is pumped from Tranmere through a pipeline to storage tanks at Stanlow, 15 miles away. Stanlow's distribution is mainly via road (50%) and pipeline (30%). Twenty percent of the products leave via the Manchester Ship canal.

Shell Ultra Low Sulphur Petrol is an unleaded petrol which has 50% less sulphur than ordinary petrol. ULSP will significantly reduce sulphur dioxide and other exhaust emissions from your car. It also contains the top performing Shell additive package giving further emissions and performance benefits. Sulphur can also interfere with the operation of the exhaust catalyst but using ULSP will help to keep the vehicle's exhaust catalyst in tip top condition for longer. Shell Diesel contains 90 per cent less sulphur than conventional diesel, reducing exhaust pollution without compromising performance. Shell Diesel Extra is a fuel with an exclusive formulation that is designed to clean the engine. This can lead to better engine performance and increased fuel economy as well as reduced emissions. Shell Diesel Extra is also higher in cetane than conventional diesel. Cetane is an indication of the fuel's readiness to ignite and a diesel fuel with a higher cetane number will aid combustion. This can lead to the engine running more smoothly with less noise and reduced emissions.
