World-Class Research Scholarships for Masters and PhD Students in Qatar

As part of their commitment to support workforce development in Qatar and address global energy and environmental challenges, Qatar Petroleum and Shell announce openings for Masters and PhD scholarships in industry-related research areas.

Qatar Science and Technology Park is the setting for a research collaboration of Qatar Petroleum and Shell with Imperial College London to study scientific and engineering-related issues dealing with carbon capture and sequestration in carbonate reservoirs. 

Qatar Petroleum, a state-owned corporation, is the driving force behind Qatar’s world leadership in Liquefied Natural Gas and Gas to Liquids. Shell, a leader in research and technology, is the world’s second-largest oil and gas company. Imperial College London is ranked fifth worldwide in the Times Higher QS World University Rankings 2007.

We are looking for Masters and PhD students in the following disciplines:

o Chemical Engineering or Chemistry
o Earth Sciences
o Petroleum Engineering
o Mechanical Engineering
o Applied Physics and Mathematics

Scholarships for PhD (and if required, for a preparatory MSc) at Imperial College London will be offered subject to the college’s normal selection criteria. Scholarships are available to all Qatari citizens. The earliest start date for scholarships is autumn 2008. Employment opportunities with Qatar Petroleum and Shell may also be considered prior to or upon completion of the academic programme.
