Shell MDS (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd. today presented the Shell Education Excellence Awards to 62 students from underprivileged families in Bintulu division who excelled in their recent Penilaian Menengah Rendah (PMR) and Sijil Persekolahan Malaysia (SPM) examinations
Some 50 recipients who achieved a minimum of 6A’s and above in the PMR received RM500 each while 12 SPM students with an aggregate of less than 15 for their best six subjects received RM800 each.
Tuan Hj. Ismail Bin Hj. Mohd. Hanis, the Resident of Bintulu who presented the awards, congratulated the students for their outstanding achievements and advised them to continue their good efforts.
“You have risen against the odds and have shown us that you will not let circumstances keep you down. Set your sights on excellence in whatever you do, work towards it and you will succeed,” he said.
Mark Pattenden, Shell MDS General Manager for Manufacturing in his speech commended the high achievers for their successes.
“We are very proud to be able to celebrate this milestone with these students and our hope is that they continue to pursue excellence. This is one of our contributions to the local community which will ensure that its bright shining stars continue to grow and excel,” he said.
The Shell Education Excellence Awards, which is jointly organised by Shell MDS (Malaysia) Sdn. Bhd. and the Bintulu Education Department since 2002, rewards and recognises excellence at SPM and PMR levels for Bintulu students from underprivileged families.
Students are recommended by their respective schools who are then short-listed and endorsed by a selection committee comprising the Education Department and Shell MDS.

This is in line with its commitment to sustainable development, which aims to ensure a better quality of life for everyone including for future generations. The Shell Education Excellence Awards is part of this commitment to nurture bright local students who will become tomorrow’s leaders.
