Balancing work and life Shell aims to support our employees in managing their work/life balance and our goal is to provide flexible working practices wherever necessary and operationally possible. For example, depending on local policies and practices within each Shell Group business, occasional telecommuting may be possible to complete specific tasks where operational reasons apply. Some businesses and locations may also enable flexi-time working on a case-by-case basis, should a relevant reason be provided and approved by management. However, Shell’s business is demanding. International travel, intensive projects and critical timescales can feature in many employees’ working lives. Time off and time out In whichever country you work for Shell, your holiday entitlement and maternity/paternity leave will be locally competitive, at least. Our ambition is for flexible working practices and we aim to accommodate career breaks or sabbaticals where operationally possible, taking into account our business needs and your own aspirations. Our diverse global community There are great opportunities to meet and work with people from many different cultures and backgrounds. Shell employs around 115,000 people, from more than 100 different nationalities and ethnic groups. Shell is an Equal Opportunity employer and we have a very strong stance on diversity and inclusiveness. A dedicated department within Shell works to develop and promote our diversity policies at Group level. Sports and social activities Whatever your interests, there is likely to be a social and sports group to get involved in. Depending on the business and location, there may be subsidised sports facilities and on-site gyms. Choice and support in an international career A career with Shell can take you to many places in the world. For long-term postings, our expatriation information centre, ‘Outpost’, provides online and offline support in many locations around the world. This assistance includes foreign language schooling, help for partners in finding local employment and a range of other services. Listening to our employees As part of our responsibility as an employer, Shell regularly conducts surveys among employees to discover issues that may need to be addressed or improved. In some locations, we provide a confidential employee counselling service. Reward for your contribution Performance-related pay and bonuses ensure that individual contribution is rewarded. Benefits programme You will be invited to join Shell’s valuable benefits programmes, often including pension/retirement plans and healthcare coverage. You can also choose to participate in our Share Save programme. In some locations, sports facilities, medical/dental care and car parking are subsidised. |
