The IMO Day of the Seafarer
With some 90% of global trade transported by sea, developed nations would simply come to a standstill without seafarers. Much of what we do everyday relies on goods brought by sea - whether it is for energy such as fuel for our cars and airports, or gas for generating electricity, or indeed for millions of items that we take for granted.
Shell Shipping is the largest LNG ship operator, directly managing 50 of the world’s 372 LNG carriers, in addition to crude and product tankers. We employ 1,200 international fleet marine officers and a further 2,000 seafarers are deployed on Shell Shipping’s Fleet. We are the largest charterer of ships and barges in the world, with tens of thousands more seafarers deployed on Shell chartered business across the globe.
25th June this year was the International Day of the Seafarer. We offer our thanks to seafarers worldwide for the vital contribution that they make. To give your personal support to the IMO Day of the Seafarer campaign visit facebook.com/SeafarerDay.
