Achieving the predicted production forecasts, margins and asset availability levels at the same time as meeting high safety standards can be the outcome of flawless asset management as a main component of production integrity.

The Shell asset management approach begins at an early stage of a project and draws on extensive experience of building and operating assets around the world. Effective asset management helps operators to meet shareholders’ expectations by providing reliability and preventing unplanned shutdowns. This is enormously important, especially with projects that are large revenue generators where the margin losses associated with a single day of lost production can be considerable.

“A key element of asset management is asset integrity, which is about keeping assets safe at all times by focusing on design, technical and operational integrity,” says Richard Gort, Asset Manager Designate, Qatar Shell GTL Limited.

Designing and building a facility so that the risks are as low as reasonably practicable helps to achieve design integrity, an important part of which is being able to integrate various technologies and engineering solutions. “This is especially important for large, complex projects such as Pearl GTL. As part of design integrity, you need to specify all the boundary conditions within which to operate and to make sure that the design can function as intended,” says Gort.
