Oman Liquefied Natural Gas LLC (Oman LNG) manages three gas liquefaction trains with a total production capacity of about 10.5 million tonnes per annum. The company has successfully introduced a new solvent for removing the acid gas contaminants from the feedstock for each train. As a result, the combined total of the incremental earnings from increased condensate sales and the incremental savings in operating costs amounts to about $250,000 a year per train.

Gas treating is an important early step in the production of LNG, as it removes acid gas contaminants from the feedstock, and thus helps to reduce emissions in the later stages of production and to meet final product specifications. All gas treating solvents degrade over time, but some degrade quicker in the presence of carbon dioxide. The ensuing degradation products can result in lost capacity and operating challenges such as corrosion in the long term.
