Tackling climate change is clearly a responsibility that, individually, we must all take seriously. Winning the battle is going to depend on our willingness to work together, to share ideas and to pool our knowledge and experience.
Climate change, and what can and should be done about it, concerns us all, so it was a natural choice for the main article (page 8) of this issue of Impact, given the summit meeting just held in Copenhagen, Denmark. We take a look at the report released earlier this year by McKinsey & Company that compares the cost and the abatement potential of over 200 measures to cut greenhouse gas emissions.
The report concludes that humanity has the power to avoid the worst effects of climate change, as long as concerted action is begun now across a broad front. Emphasis is given to the role of technology in overcoming climate change, which is a message that Shell Global Solutions supports. Industry needs to redouble its efforts to develop and refine the technology measures necessary to combat climate change. At the same time, Shell will continue to advocate the international policy framework necessary to ensure their widespread implementation.
