Innovation and R&D are key in the oil and gas industry, especially in the current climate of strict regulation and increasing competition.
Access to, and deployment of, the latest technology is even more important at a time when there is a need to improve performance without major capital investments. Shell Global Solutions aims to turn bright ideas into important new technologies; its efforts in R&D are bearing fruit and gaining recognition and awards.
Shell employs around 30,000 technical staff, including contractors; about 10% of these are directly involved in R&D or demonstration projects working in a global network of technical centers.
Shell Global Solutions has increased its focus on the management of three core R&D areas: operational performance,
leveraging third parties in the development and deployment of technologies, and the development and protection of proprietary technologies.
