Shell Global Solutions Reviews Pipeline Integrity and Reliability

Sonatrach TRC engaged Shell Global Solutions International B.V. to review the integrity and reliability management of pipelines at Sonatrach TRC as part of a pipeline rehabilitation initiative.

A concern to improve the reliability and availability of its transportation system and the need to comply with the more stringent legislation introduced in Algeria in 2005 has led Sonatrach TRC to enlist Shell Global Solutions' assistance. Shell Global Solutions will identify the current process of integrity and reliability management for Sonatrach TRC's pipelines and evaluate the actual technical integrity of part of the pipeline system. Sonatrach TRC operates more than 16,000 km of transmission pipelines.

  • Shell Global Solutions' assessment will form the basis for:
  • Ensuring a continued license-to-operate;
  • Increasing reliability of the pipeline system;
  • Enhancing availability of the transportation system; and
  • Reducing risk of pipeline failures.

Mr. Hocine Chekired, Vice President, Transportation by Pipeline Branch, Sonatrach TRC, said "Shell Global Solutions' evaluation and consultation will be invaluable for us to get an accurate assessment of where we are now and how to best optimise moving forward. We look forward to building this relationship between our organisations and utilising Shell Global Solutions' best practices to maximise our performance."

Wayne Hutchinson, Vice President, Sales & Marketing, Shell Global Solutions, said "This review is crucial to identify, assess and analyse the status of Sonatrach TRC's pipeline integrity to lay the groundwork for future improvements. Our proven experience, technology and expertise in asset integrity management programmes continue to help oil and gas companies reduce operational risks, failures and emissions while meeting increased regulatory needs."
