At Shell Chemicals we put consideration for safety, the environment and the community at the centre of what we do. We have strong health, security, safety and environment (HSSE) performance systems in place, as part of good business practice. And we put strong attention on learning and culture, including working with our contractors and customers. Product stewardship (managing risk when handling, disposing of or transporting our products) is an integral part of this priority effort as well.
The chemical industry and climate change
Chemical technologies and products are used in almost every area of the world economy. The chemical industry has a significant challenge to deliver absolute reductions in its own production of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions but is unique, however, in its ability to enable other industries and society at large to save energy and reduce overall emissions.
An independent study published by the International Council of Chemical Associations (ICCA) shows that savings in greenhouse gas emissions enabled by the global chemical industry are at least double the emissions the industry generates.
The report, based on carbon life-cycle analysis, highlights areas and applications where chemicals products can help deliver significant net reductions in CO2 emissions.
Shell Chemicals is a leading supplier of many of the raw material building blocks for these areas and applications, such as insulation.
