We are delighted to announce that AeroShell Ascender turbine engine oil (TEO) is now fully approved for use in the Trent 1000 engine that powers the Boeing 787 Dreamliner.

The approval comes after AeroShell Ascender met a series of international specification requirements, including SAE AS 5780B and Mil-PRF 23699F. In addition, the TEO underwent laboratory testing to Rolls-Royce’s own stringent in-house requirements before it was run in a Trent 1000 test-bed engine. AeroShell Ascender performed exceptionally well in all aspects of the tests, including gruelling engine tests where the Trent 1000 was run for an extended time at full power combined with periods of high oil temperature and low oil pressure. The Rolls-Royce test procedure works the oil harder than it will ever experience in normal day-to-day operations.

AeroShell Ascender has been specifically designed to meet the requirements of engines that demand the use of a high-performance capability (HPC) oil and those that would benefit from its low coking propensity, high thermal stability and compatibility with modern elastomers. This is the first of several civil, large-engine approvals in the pipeline for AeroShell Ascender and the first oil approval of any AeroShell turbine oil in the Trent family of engines for over a decade. We expect the formal service bulletin to be published by Q1 2014.

This approval means that Shell Aviation is able to offer a complete TEO solution for Trent 1000 powered Boeing 787. AeroShell 390 and 308 are approved for use in the aircraft’s APS 5000 auxiliary power unit, which needs a 3-cSt oil.

This is a great milestone for Shell Aviation and AeroShell Ascender; it is the beginning of what we believe will be a long and prosperous business with our current and future airline customers.
