When Shell launched Shell FuelSave Partner in 2010 it was one of the only fuel management systems in the European market able to automatically calculate fuel related CO2 emissions on a per tonne-km basis.

However, technological innovation doesn’t stand still and, taking feedback from customers into account, Shell has expanded its Shell FuelSave Partner proposition with a new technical partnership with Astrata Europe. The result is a new telematics system that unites the capabilities of the Shell FuelSave Partner fuel management system with advanced fleet management services.

The system also offers a single online management portal, called FleetVisor, designed to provide road transport fleet operators with a complete overview of their fleet and fuel operations. In doing so, the service can help commercial road transport fleet operators identify opportunities for operational improvements and fuel savings, optimise and structure communication with drivers and stay compliant with the EU Working Time and Driving Time Directives.

Commenting on the development, Shell FuelSave Partner business manager Frederic Le Ballois said: “Fleet managers often find it hard to gain a complete overview of fleet and fuel management information, as each system tends to come with its own specialist hardware, software and user interface. This new system seeks to address this challenge by providing a single solution developed by two recognised industry leaders.”

The core functionalities of the new system include: messaging and workflow; a remote tachograph download service; driver hours management, track and trace, vehicle navigation, trailer and reefer management and Shell FuelSave Partner fuel management reporting. The system is integrated with the euroShell card, allowing it to also help fleet managers identify potential fraudulent activities by reconciling fuel card purchase data with actual fuel information from the tank.
