Richard Bracewell - Biography
Richard Bracewell may be a new face in the Formula One™ paddock, but he’s been at Shell since 1996, working in various regional and global roles. Find out how Richard became a motorsport fan and came to work as General Manager of Global Sponsorships.
Richard Bracewell is General Manager of Shell’s Global Sponsorships.
Having graduated from the University of Leeds with a geography degree, Bracewell moved into a career in automotive aftercare. When the opportunity arose in 1996 to work for Shell, it was too good to turn down.
His first job at Shell was Marketing Manager for consumer lubricants in the UK. Bracewell then worked his way up through a number of regional and global roles, most recently as global marketing manager for Shell Helix motor oils.
Bracewell’s passion for motorsport began when he was very young. His father was a sports car fanatic and Bracewell spent many hours of his childhood watching rally events on television – and listening to Murray Walker’s commentary on Formula One™ races. As Niki Lauda and James Hunt were getting a hold on Formula One™ in the mid-70s, motorsport was starting to occupy a special place in Bracewell’s heart.
In 2009, Bracewell moved across to Shell Brands International to work as general manager of Shell’s Global Sponsorships, leading the development of Shell’s sponsorship properties to maximise brand value gained from the technical partnerships. In this role, Bracewell works alongside some of the most inspirational figures in the world of motorsport to extend and deepen Shell’s already impressive heritage and development.
When not travelling the world fulfilling his technical partnership commitments, Bracewell enjoys spending time with his family, hiking and skiing, as well as following Manchester United Football Club.
