Born on 29 March 1974 in Sabadell, Spain, Marc Gené made his motor-racing debut in 1987 in the Catalan Kart Championship.
The following year he won both the Catalan Kart Championship and the Spanish series in the National Class and in 1990 he became the youngest driver ever to win the Spanish Kart Championship in the Senior Class. In 1994 and 1995 he took part in the British Formula Three Championship. He won the II Golden Cup FISA Superformula in 1996.
Gené’s first appearance in the Formula One™ World Championship was in 1999 with Minardi. He raced again for the Faenza outfit the following season. In 2001 he was taken on by BMW-Williams as a test driver, a role he filled until 2004. While with BMW-Williams he also competed in three Grands Prix: the Italian in 2003; the French and the British in 2004.
He came to Maranello as a test driver on 22 November 2004 and took to the track the very next day in Barcelona at the wheel of an F2004. He remains on the books as a development driver for Scuderia Ferrari.
A graduate in economics, Gené has a keen interest in literature. When he’s not on the race track, Gené is a regular guest at Shell’s global events, speaking to guests and media and participating in demonstrations to highlight Shell’s technical partnership with Ferrari. Over the years, Shell events have taken Gené to Finland, Poland, the Czech Republic, Qatar and Spain.
