Overview
The F430 Spider is the convertible version of the F430; the car is an amalgamation of the aggression and performance of the F430 coupled with the elegance typical of a Ferrari drop-top. The race track proved to be an integral feature in the research and design process - the Scuderia's experience out on the track has had a huge impact on the development of this car. The F430 Spider boasts all the advanced technology of the F430, but has been honed by the very latest aerodynamic calculation methodologies developed in collaboration with the Ferrari Gestione Sportiva department.
The F430 Spider and all other Ferrari GT cars are supported by a dedicated team of Shell scientists. The team works to blend fuels and lubricants that give the ultimate protection without compromising performance.
Performance
The F430 Spider is powered by Ferrari's 490 hp, 4,308 cc 90° V8 engine, an incredibly compact unit that punches out 114 hp/litre and has a weight-to-power ratio of 2.9 kg/hp. The result is absolutely blistering performance: the Spider sprints from 0-100 km/h in just 4.1 seconds. Meticulous aerodynamic design is reflected in the design of the rear spoiler with more muscular air intakes to channel air into the engine, and the rear diffuser integrated into the bumper.
The F430 Spider, along with all other Ferrari GT cars, provides a test bed for the Shell road products as they make the transition from track to road. Since the 1930s, Shell has collaborated with Ferrari - the first Ferrari to exit the gates of Maranello in 1947 was powered by Shell.
Styling
Designed by Pininfarina, the F430 Spider exudes the typical Ferrari elegance. All aspects of the design have been considered - from the F430 Spider logo inscribed on the driver's front wing mirrors to the new exhaust with ball-polished steel tailpipes. The large rear window offers a view of the glorious compact Ferrari engine.
The car's interior has a distinct sporting ambience, but particular attention has been paid to the practical aspects of the car, such as the number and size of the storage compartments.
