Ferrari California
Launched in late 2008, the California represents a new wave of Ferrari cars. With lower CO2 emissions and a Direct Injection fuel system, this Prancing Horse embodies the future of Ferrari. Take a look at its vital statistics below.
Overview
The Ferrari California, launched in October 2008, is a Gran Turismo of firsts for Ferrari: The first folding hard-top roof on a Ferrari GT car, the first dual clutch in a Ferrari GT car and the first Direct Injection fuel system in a Ferrari GT car. Underneath its beautiful exterior, the car's Direct Injection fuel system gives the V8 engine better fuel economy, cleaner emissions and still retains the 460 horsepower that sounds like all Ferraris should.
Shell worked closely with Ferrari for over 2 years to develop the Direct Injection fuel system and, in doing so, transferred a huge amount of information from Formula One to the Gran Turismo cars for the road.
Performance
Like all Ferraris the California is created to provide first and foremost an intense experience of driving enjoyment. 0-100kph in less than 4 seconds, 460 horsepower and a top speed of 310kph are the signs of a true, red blooded supercar. Powered by Ferrari's new Direct Injected V8 engine and using the dual clutch system gives the driver the quickest gear change ever experienced in a Ferrari. The now-familiar Manettino is again on the steering wheel – an innovation taken from Formula One.
Granting the driver the freedom to decide how the car is to be driven, the specifi GT Manettino has three settings controlling the behaviour of the transmission, stability and traction control systems and SCM suspensions. Once again, Ferrari recommends that clients use Shell V-Power and Shell Helix to maximise the performance of this stunning car.
Styling
The California's beautiful lines are crafted by the world famous Pininfarina design house. Ferrari has traced the legacy of this car back to the classic 250 California that remains one of the most iconic cars of the last 50 years. The bonnet and headlight shapes exude class and are an updated style of the popular design.
The shaping of the chassis aids the aerodynamics as well as accommodating the most up to date technologies. The front and rear LED lights ensure the shortest response time between pressing the brake pedal and illuminating the lights; yet another safety feature that is incorporated in their elongated shape - a most recent of signature features of a Ferrari Gran Turismo car.
