Presenter:
Shell Motorsport World recently visited Festa Ducati 2008 for an action-packed motorcycle weekend at the world famous Nürburgring grand prix track in Germany.

Presenter:
Over 20,000 Ducati fans from all over Europe travelled to Germany’s most famous race track to this biennial event where more than 8,000 bikes went through the gates, ranging widely in both style and age.

The Nürburgring was turned red and Ducati fans were treated to a string of events including live music, stunt shows and a Ducati clothing fashion show.

The GP sessions proved to be extremely popular with bikers, who had a unique opportunity to ride on this prestigious track and try their chances competing in a virtual grand prix on the Shell-riding simulator.

Elsewhere, the Ducatisiti got to see how a racing engine is built, which even got the attention of the younger generation of fans eager to discover the secrets of the powerful Ducati bikes.

Presenter:
One particular highlight amongst fans was the presentation of the dynometer in the Shell area, one of several interactive demonstrations of Shell’s technical partnership with Ducati.

The dyno is used to measure horse power and torque produced by the bike’s engine.  Fans had the unique opportunity to learn how Shell uses the dynos to monitor the effects caused by modification of the formulation of Shell V-Power fuel.  The electronic system allows you to record even the smallest change in the horse power which is invaluable in developing the ultimate performance fuel.

Presenter:
The crowd had yet more to cheer about when World Superbike champion Troy Bayliss joined the celebration in the Shell area. The Ducati rider spent time chatting to fans, posing for photographs and signing autographs.  For many, it was probably their last chance to see the charismatic Australian, who had announced he will end his successful racing career at the end of the 2008 season.

Bayliss visited the Shell Track Lab, a key part of the Shell and Ducati Research & Development programme, to gain a better understanding of how Shell helps power him to victory.  The mobile laboratory sees Shell technicians carry out on-site analysis of the fuel and lubricant during race weekends.

Joerg Landschof, Shell V-Power Race Fuel Development Manager, demonstrated to Troy how his fuel is analysed, while Michael Knaak, Lubricant Development & Delivery Manager, was keen to share his knowledge about how lubricants protect his engine.

They explained how the latest version of Shell Advance racing oil has been optimised to work with Shell V-Power race fuel, with the aim of reducing fuel consumption and maximising power output from the bike.

The implementation of a mix of highly effective 'friction modifiers' in the latest blends of Shell Advance lubricant allows the Ducati race bikes engine to produce significantly more horsepower, while the blend of Shell V-Power race fuel is designed to give more power and performance at a reduced fuel consumption level. The fuel and lubricant is constantly being developed using the knowledge gained from the extreme conditions of motorcycle racing.

Presenter:
For many the Festa Ducati event was simply an unforgettable experience. The next chance for petrol heads to experience this motorcycle heaven will be in 2010 when the celebration returns.  I know I will be booking my ticket.

In the meantime, check back here for more news and insight into the world of Shell Motorsport.

I’m Robert Reina.  Cheers for now!
