Liquefied natural gas (LNG)
A cool approach to shipping
Less is more
Natural gas is a major source of energy. But many towns and cities are located far from gas fields. We cool natural gas to liquid, shrinking its volume for easier, safer storage and shipment overseas. Shell provided the technology for the world's first commercial liquefied natural gas (LNG) plant nearly 50 years ago and has continued to advance it in plants around the world ever since. Today we are the world’s largest LNG shipping operator, managing and operating 50 carriers. Once the liquefied natural gas arrives at its destination, we turn it back into gas for piping to homes and businesses.
