Afam integrated oil and gas project
The largest project of its kind in Nigeria, Afam is boosting the country’s electricity and gas supply.
Shell companies in Nigeria develop projects onshore in the Niger Delta and offshore in the Gulf of Guinea. These are challenging locations.
The delta is an area roughly the size of Portugal. It is half swamp, half land, with a maze of creeks and mangroves. Equipment has to be transported on barges for hundreds of kilometres.
The deep water operations are 120km offshore in water 2.5 km deep.

Once it is operating fully the Gbaran-Ubie integrated oil and gas project will significantly increase Nigeria’s gas supply.
