Millennium Development Goals
We are helping governments to meet the United Nations Millennium Development goals. Our main contribution comes from the energy we produce.
The United Nations laid out eight Millennium Development Goals in 2000 to be achieved within 15 years. Governments are responsible for achieving the targets defined by the goals. These include halving extreme poverty, providing universal primary education, and reversing the spread of diseases and viruses such as HIV/AIDS.
But, like other businesses and institutions, we also contribute to helping governments meet the goals. One of the most important ways in which we provide support is by producing energy that also allows economic development. And we provide support for social investment programmes, including those to help prevent the spread of HIV/AIDS.
