Team Requirements

  • A team will consist of a maximum of eight (8) official team members, including the Team Manager, Driver, and Teacher Advisor. (Note: The teacher advisor should be part of the 8 official members.)
  • Student participants should be 16-30 years old on the event dates. All participants must still be enrolled in a school or institution at the time of the event.
  • The Team Manager should be able to speak and understand English as he/she will be coordinating with the organisers throughout the event.
  • Each Team is responsible for all other costs and expenses associated with participating in the event i.e. travel from home country to Luneta and back, building and freighting cost for vehicle, hotel/accommodation, etc.

Registration Process

In Asia, teams that are interested in participating should register in three phases:

  • Phase 1 Registration (Closed)
    • Phase 1 is the initial phase wherein teams will be asked to submit valuable information including:
      • Basic vehicle information
      • Contact details
      • Vehicle photos or drawings
    • Due to the bulk of registrations, the organisers will screen through the applications and will notify you to move on to Phase 2.
  • Phase 2 Registration (Closed)
    • After passing Phase 1, teams will be asked to provide more information on their vehicle entry for the event, such as:
      • Engine
      • Fuel supply
      • Vehicle circuitry
    • This technical information will be evaluated before selecting the teams to participate in Shell Eco-marathon Asia 2016. You will be notified of the results via email.
  • Phase 3: Logistics (Closes on December 10, 2015)

    • Teams selected on Phase 2 will be required to submit documents for the competition in Phase 3 for compliance. These include:
      • University endorsement letter
      • Scanned copy of passports and university IDs
      • Telegraphic transfer form
      • Required signed documents
  • Travel and Accommodation Registration
    • Participating teams must register their travel and accommodation details through the WRG website.
      • Team members’ details
      • Flight details
      • Hotel booking
  • Phase 4: Off-Track Awards (Closes on February 15, 2016)

Teams will be informed should there be changes on these dates.

Awards and Categories

Teams may only use any one of the following energies for their vehicles:

  1. Gasoline (Shell FuelSave Unleaded 95)
  2. Diesel (Shell FuelSave Diesel)
  3. Ethanol E100 (100% ethanol)
  4. GTL (Shell Gas-to-Liquid)
  5. CNG (Compressed Natural Gas)
  6. Hydrogen
  7. Battery Electric

Note that during the competition, Ethanol E100 and GTL (Shell Gas-to-Liquid) will be ranked jointly in one prize category called ‘Alternative Fuels’.

Off-Track Awards

Teams are encouraged to submit entries for the following Off-Track Awards.

  1. Communications Award
  2. Vehicle Design Award
  3. Technical Innovation Award
  4. Safety Award

At the event, teams can also be recognised with the Perseverance & Spirit of the Event Award -- teams cannot apply, but will nominated by organisers on-site.

The deadline for the application is February 15, 2016.

Competition: Shell Eco-marathon Asia 2016

The competition will take place once again around the Luneta Park in Manila, Philippines, from March 3-6, 2016.
