Rules, prizes and judging
See below some of the main rules, judging criteria and prize list of the Shell Student Energy Challenge for Shell Eco-marathon Asia 2013.
Official Rules
1. ELIGIBILITY: The Shell Eco-marathon Asia 2013 ‘ Shell Student Energy Challenge: A Look Into The Future’ Infographic Contest (the “Contest”) is open only to those Teams that are registered to participate in the Shell Eco-marathon Asia 2013 (“SEM”). In the event a Team withdraws from the SEM or a Team is disqualified from participating in the SEM for any reason, that Team will no longer be eligible to participate in this Contest.
2. CONTEST DEADLINE: All entries must be submitted by 17:00 hrs GMT+8 on May 31, 2013.
3. CONTEST DESCRIPTION: The Contest invites all Teams to submit one Infographic (“Entry”) which responds to one or more of the following questions:
Question One:
By the year 2050, the earth’s population is expected to exceed nine billion people and the demand for energy is expected to triple.
What does the global energy mix look like in the year 2050?
Question Two:
Awareness of the complex relationship between food, water and energy has grown in recent years. In the coming decades population growth and economic prosperity will continue to put pressure on these resources.
How exactly are food, water and energy interconnected and what challenges are we, as a society, likely to experience if we do not address the pressures on these interconnected resources?
Question Three:
Today, 50 percent of the world’s population lives in cities and cities are responsible for 80 percent of all CO2 emissions. By 2050, it is expected that one in every four people on earth will live in a city.
What are some of the most effective ways that cities can become more energy efficient while at the same time reducing CO2 emissions?
Entries should include graphics and illustrations to communicate the response. There is no word limit, but Entries should be image-led.
4. HOW TO ENTER: To enter each Team must submit at least one Entry by 17:00 hrs GMT+8 on May 31, 2013 via email to eco-marathon-asia@shell.com. A Team may submit more than one entry. Entries should be in PDF format and must fit on standard A4 paper size (8”x11”) . Each Entry must be the original to the Team, and should not employ professional services.
