Shell Eco-marathon Americas 2015 takes place in Detroit, Michigan, from April 9-12, 2015. See important information for the participant teams and event details before joining the competition.
Shell Eco-marathon Americas runs under two sets of rules: Global Rules, Chapter I and the Americas Rules, Chapter II. The local set of rules includes details about schedule of events; paddock; lodging; travel stipends and shipping.
Remember to read the rules carefully before applying to the competition.

On April 8th (10:00 AM – 3:00 PM)
This field trip is to provide students an opportunity to see nearby attractions that align with their individual participation in Shell Eco-marathon Americas.
In an effort to get students back and prepping for the upcoming days we have scheduled arrival time back at Cobo to be just before registration officially opens.

Please see the PDF below for detailed shipping information. Freeman is once again the recommended shipping provider for teams participating in Shell Eco-marathon Americas.
You are not required to use Freeman, but please note that we will not be able to assist teams with any shipping issues (i.e. vehicles getting stuck in customs) if they use their own shipping provider.
If you chose to use Freeman, they will assist you with all of the customs and brokerage paperwork and will have a representative onsite at the event to provide assistance as needed. As you will see in the document, you may contact Stephanie or David at Freeman in order to secure a quote and process your order.
The track in Detroit
The track in Detroit will be located on the street near the Cobo Convention Center (length: 0.9 miles).
About the fuel tanks
Teams are required to purchase and use the Shell Eco-marathon fuel tanks for all events. Prior years’ fuel tanks are perfectly acceptable. Below are the available options:
- 350ml = $175 USD
Additional fuel tank caps are also available for $10.
Detailed fuel tank dimensions are outlined in this document. We have also developed this short illustrative guide to help you prevent leaks in the tap of your fuel tank.

About the tires
Teams are not required to use Michelin tires and are free to use tires of their choosing. Please ensure that the tires properly fit the wheel. Below are the available options:
Michelin 44-406 Prototype tires (view photo) = $79 USD
- The specs for these tires are 44-406 (20" x 1.75"); inflate up to 50PSI
