Shell Eco-marathon Americas runs under two sets of rules: Global Rules, Chapter I and the Americas Rules, Chapter II. The local set of rules includes details about schedule of events; paddock; lodging; travel stipends and shipping.
Remember to read the rules carefully before applying to the competition.

Student Field Trips – If you are interested in joining us for some fun outside of Cobo Center (last spring, we toured The Henry Ford and Ford Rouge Factory), please make sure to arrange your travel to Detroit so you are there by Tuesday evening for the Wednesday tour options. We will post the 2016 shipping information as soon as it becomes available. Freeman will once again be the recommended shipping provider for teams participating in Shell Eco-marathon Americas.
The track in Detroit
The track in Detroit will be located on the city streets near the Cobo Convention Center. The updated track will be slightly shorter at 0.6 miles. The new track map is available via the link below.
The paddock area will once again be located in Cobo Center. From 2016, the paddock will be closed between midnight and 6am. This is a safety measure applied to Shell Eco-marathon in all events to ensure security and safety of all staff members and participants.
About the fuel tanks
Teams are required to purchase and use the Shell Eco-marathon fuel tanks for all events. Prior years’ fuel tanks are perfectly acceptable. Below are the available options:
- 350ml = $175 USD
Additional fuel tank caps are also available for $10.

About the tires
Teams are not required to use Michelin tires and are free to use tires of their choosing. Please ensure that the tires properly fit the wheel. Below are the available options:
Michelin 44-406 Prototype tires (view photo) = $79 USD
- The specs for these tires are 44-406 (20" x 1.75"); inflate up to 50PSI

- Rolling resistance: 2 kg/t (Kilogramme/tonne)
Michelin UrbanConcept tires (view photo) = $235 USD

- Rolling resistance: 95/80 R 16: 1.5 kg/t
Michelin Radial 45-75 R16 tires (view photo) = $235 USD
Due to limited supply, we are only able to provide a reasonable number of tires to registered Shell Eco-marathon Americas participants.
