Where is the track located?
The event will take place on the city streets of Houston around the Discovery Green Conservancy downtown.
What is the track distance? How many laps per attempt?
The track is .6 mile. A valid attempt for both Prototype and UrbanConcept vehicles will require 10 laps for a total distance of six miles at a minimum average speed of 15mph.
The number of attempts per day during the competition for the Prototype and UrbanConcept vehicles will be determined once all teams have officially registered. An attempt is defined as any vehicle that has crossed the "Start Line."
Will the electric teams be able to recharge between attempts?
Yes.
What is the turning radius for the track?
The graphic below depicts the turning radius you will be required to achieve to safely and successfully navigate the track at Shell Eco-marathon Americas.
What special challenges does the city street track present?
The urban environment will present some new challenges to drivers. For instance, the surface, while flat, will include concrete and asphalt pavements.
Additionally, street curbs and road barriers exist in which drivers will need to be careful to avoid, especially in turns and when overtaking other vehicles. Drivers will need to drive smarter to ensure everyone has adequate space and distance during the competition .
