The track
Shell Eco-marathon Americas takes place on the city streets surrounding Discovery Green Park in the heart of Houston. Teams across the Americas – including Brazil, Canada, Mexico and the USA, compete to see who can travel the farthest distance using the least amount of energy.

- Type: Urban
- Track dimensions: Lane width ~3.35 m (11 feet). Four turns.
- Distance: Each lap is 0.97 km (0.6 miles) and participants must complete 10 for a full run.
- Speed: Average speed is initially set at 24 km/h (15mph).
- Features: The track runs around a 12-acre public park, Discovery Green.
The roads bordering Discovery Green comprise the track. Students tested innovative vehicles that they had designed and built to see which went the furthest on the least amount of fuel.
