Shell & CNBC
CNBC, the leading business and financial news channel, presents Energy Opportunities. This ongoing series of events across the globe in partnerships with Shell aims to help find solutions to the world’s toughest energy challenges by brainstorming with leading experts.
CNBC and Shell hosted the first in a series of four Energy Opportunities brainstorms for 2013-2014 in early July in London, UK, on the theme of “Empowering innovation: Harnessing the IT revolution”. With over 80 key stakeholders in attendance, the evening saw wide ranging and thought-provoking dialogue as guests debated a hypothetical future energy scenario set in 2035: “Despite a ballooning population, the IT and mobile revolution has resulted in a 20% reduction in emissions over 20 years”.
Participants are divided into eleven tables with Shell representatives each joining a table. In London, CNBC’s Squawk Box morning news programme anchor Geoff hosted the event. To conclude the brainstorm, the best idea for meeting the energy scenario from each table was presented to the room to be voted on – the winning idea was a seven-stage process to achieving significant energy efficiency gains through liberated energy data and an interconnected world of smart technology and devices.
Energy Opportunities events will next be held in Bangkok, Thailand, and Delhi, India, with a wrap-up event in CNBC’s London studios.
