Shell has operated in Gabon since the early 1960’s when it discovered oil in the Gamba area. It currently produces some 65,000 bbls of oil a day from five fields.
Shell Gabon signs contract with Gabon’s Ministry of Oil for the building of the Moungagara Loubomo road
In conjunction with the Government Shell Gabon has initiated the building of a 53 kilometre road from Moungagara in the Ndougou department to Loubomo in Basse Banio department, in Gabon, in order to connect the town of Gamba to the national road network. The project will be carried out with the technical support of the German Agency for Development Cooperation, the Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Internationale Zusammenarrbeit (GIZ).
The contract for the building of the road was signed at the Ministry of Oil, on Wednesday 12, September 2012 by Shell Gabon, the Minister of Public Works, the Minister of Oil Energy and Water Resources, the Deputy Minister of Economy Employment and Sustainable Development, and representatives of GIZ in the presence of the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Ambassador of Germany, the General Manager of the “Fonds d’Entretien Routier” and a representative of the “Agence Nationale des Grands Travaux”.
The signing of this contract is a major event as it marks the implementation of one of the largest construction projects of the past decade in the Ndougou and Basse Banio departments financed by the State and Shell Gabon through the “Provision pour Investissements Diversifiés-PID” and “Provision pour Investissements dans les Hydrocarbures- PIH”.
PID is intended to finance investments that meet development objectives of the Gabonese economy while PIH aims to allocate funds to investments or financial commitments tailored to development goals of the oil industry within the Gabonese economy.
The project duration is estimated at 26 months. Preliminary technical studies were completed in April 2012 and the construction phase of the project is expected to start in October 2012

Shell Gabon signe un contrat au Ministère du Pétrole pour la construction de la route Moungagara- Loubomo
En accord avec le Gouvernement, Shell Gabon a initié en 2011 le projet de construction d’une route d’environ 53 KM entre les villages de Moungagara dans le département de Ndougou et Loubomo dans la Basse Banio, au Gabon, afin de relier la ville de Gamba au réseau routier national. Ce projet est réalisé avec l’appui technique de l’Agence Allemande de Coopération au Développement, la Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Internationale Zusammenarrbeit (GIZ)
Le contrat de construction de cette route a été signé au Ministère du Pétrole le mercredi 12 Septembre 2012, par Shell Gabon, le Ministre des Travaux Publics, le Ministre du Pétrole de l’Energie et des Ressources Hydrauliques, le Ministre Délégué à l’Economie, l’Emploi et le Développement Durable, et les représentants de GIZ en présence du Ministre Délégué aux Affaires Etrangères, de l’Ambassadeur de la République Fédérale d’Allemagne, du Directeur Général du Fonds d’Entretien Routier, et d’un représentant de l’Agence Nationale des Grands Travaux.
La signature de ce contrat est un évènement majeur, car elle confirme la mise en œuvre de l’un des plus grands projets de construction de ces dernières années dans les départements de Ndougou et de la Basse Banio grâce au financement de l’état Gabonais et Shell Gabon au travers de la Provision pour Investissements Diversifiés (PID) et la Provision pour Investissement dans les Hydrocarbures (PIH).
La PID a pour objectif de financer tout investissement qui d’une façon générale, répond aux objectifs de développement de l’économie Gabonaise et la PIH a pour objet d’affecter des fonds à des investissements ou à des engagements financiers adaptés aux objectifs du développement de l’industrie des hydrocarbures au sein de l’économie gabonaise.
La durée du projet est estimée à 26 mois. Les études techniques préalables ont été finalisées en Avril 2012 et le projet de construction devrait démarrer en Octobre 2012.
Shell Gabon est présente au Gabon depuis plus de 50 ans. La compagnie opère les champs de Gamba/Ivinga, Rabi/Kounga, Toucan et Koula dont la production avoisine 64,000 barils /jour
