About the registration

The registration process for Shell Eco-marathon Asia consists of four different phases:

  • Phase 1: Team interest and information
  • Phase 2: Technical information
  • Phase 3: Logistics
  • Phase 4: Off-track Awards

Team requirements

Teams interested in participating in Shell Eco-marathon Asia should register to be eligible to complete.

  • A team will consist of a maximum of eight (8) official team members, including the Team Manager, Driver, and Teacher Advisor. (Note: The teacher advisor should be part of the 8 official members.)
  • Student participants should be 16-30 years old on the event dates. All participants must still be enrolled in a school or institution at the time of the event.
  • The Team Manager should be able to speak and understand English as he/she will be coordinating with the organisers throughout the event.
  • Each Team is responsible for all other costs and expenses associated with participating in the event i.e. travel from home country to Luneta and back, building and freighting cost for vehicle, hotel/accommodation, etc.

Registration process

Phase 1

Phase 1 Registration

Opens: July 12, 2016

Closes: August 11, 2016

During Phase 1, teams teams are required to submit valuable information including:

  • Basic vehicle information
  • Contact details
  • Vehicle photos or drawings

The number of teams eligible to compete is limited. The organisers reserve the right to select the teams/vehicles that best adhere to the safety guidelines and offer the best driver protection.

Phase 2

Phase 2 Registration

Opens: August 23, 2016

Closes: September 22, 2016

  • After passing Phase 1, teams will be asked to provide more information on their vehicle entry for the event, such as:
    • Engine
    • Fuel supply
    • Vehicle circuitry
  • This technical information will be evaluated before selecting the teams to participate in Shell Eco-marathon Asia. You will be notified of the results via email.

Phase 3

Phase 3: Logistics

Opens: October 4, 2016

Closes: February 14, 2017

  • Teams selected on Phase 2 will be required to submit documents for the competition in Phase 3 for compliance. These include:
    • University endorsement letter
    • Scanned copy of passports and university IDs
    • Telegraphic transfer form
    • Required signed documents

Travel and Accommodation Registration

  • Participating teams must register their travel and accommodation details through the WRG website.
    • Team members’ details
    • Flight details
    • Hotel booking

Phase 4

Phase 4: Off-Track Awards

Opens: October 4, 2016

Closes: March 9, 2017

Teams are encouraged to submit entries for the following Off- Track awards:

  • Communications Award
  • Vehicle Design Award
  • Technical Innovation Award
  • Safety Award

At the event, teams can also be recognised with the Perseverance & Spirit of the Event Award -- teams cannot apply, but will be nominated by organisers on-site.

The deadline for the Shell Eco-marathon Asia Off-Track Awards application is March 9, 2017.

Teams will be informed by the Shell Eco-marathon Asia team if there are any changes regarding the proposed dates and deadlines.
