Ketones product overview
Our ketones cover the whole range of volatilities. Their applications include surface coatings, adhesives, thinners, printing inks and cleaning agents.
What are ketones?
Ketones are water clear, highly mobile liquids with a characteristic odour. They are chemically very stable. Due to the carbonyl group, ketones are hydrogen acceptors and have an outstanding solvency. Shell chemicals companies produce many ketones out of propylene and butylene, covering the whole range of volatilities. Examples are acetone, MEK, MIBK and DIBK.
How are ketones used?
Ketones are used in surface coatings, adhesives, thinners, printing inks and cleaning agents. Other industrial uses are in pharmaceuticals, extraction, dewaxing, and as chemical intermediates (MMA, Bisphenol A and isophorone).
