CASE polyols are manufactured at Pernis in The Netherlands. A new production process went live in November 2011, incorporating our proprietary continuous process technology. This has enabled a significant expansion of the CASE production capacity and a resultant widening of the market into which the products can be sold.

The continuous process also delivers some advantageous product properties. The polyols typically have fewer by-products, leading to less odour and less volatile organic compounds (VOCs) than those made via a batch process.

The Pernis manufacturing facility has a number of world-class features. It is integrated with the Pernis refinery as well as with the propylene oxide facility at nearby Moerdijk, incorporates leading technology, and is supported by strong supply chain and logistics operations. The facility also has a dedicated and experienced production team supporting the delivery of consistent, quality polyol products to customers.

Applications

Polyether polyols are a major component in the production of urethane chemistry-based Coatings, Adhesives, Sealants and Elastomers.

Examples of CASE urethane systems are:

  • The adhesive system that glues the glass into a car window frame. It gives the car its structural stability and forms a seamless seal between the metal and the glass.
  • The adhesive that bonds rubber scrap into tiles.
  • The micro-cellular moulded elastomer that covers the metal frame in a car steering wheel.
  • The non-foam elastomeric sheets that dampen the sound and vibrations under rail tracks.

CASE urethanes are among the most versatile of polyurethane applications and are characterised by their light weight, great durability and unique low temperature mechanical properties. They are often preferred to alternative materials as they can be formulated to deliver tailored performance properties for specific end-uses in the automotive, construction and surfacing industries.
