Manufacturing locations
With a combined production capacity of more than 1,200 kilotonnes per year, Shell chemicals companies are the largest global producers of linear alpha olefins. We operate two manufacturing plants, one at Stanlow in the UK and the other at Geismar in the US.
Adaptable, flexible production capability
Investments and upgrades in recent years at Geismar in Louisiana have helped us grow with increasing customer demand and reinforces our long term commitment to our linear alpha olefin (LAO) customers.
Building capacity is not the only way we respond to changing market conditions. Our downstream integration gives us the flexibility to respond to changing demand across the LAO portfolio. We can also react to regional market variations by optimising our global supply system, which includes leveraged logistics contracts and storage depots around the world.
The Shell Chemicals LAO advantage
Most applications calling for linear alpha olefins require high-purity feedstock. We meet these high standards through our proprietary SHOP manufacturing process and by following rigorous quality control procedures.
NEODENE* linear alpha olefins stand out on properties like:
- Low paraffin content – reduces yield loss due to inert material
- Low internal olefin content – limits undesired synthesis
- Low branched olefin content – limits undesired synthesis
- Low water, peroxide and carbonyl content – minimises harm to catalysts
