Stijn van Els
CEO (designate) Al-Karaana, Qatar Petroleum and Shell Petrochemicals Project
Since joining Shell with a physics degree from Delft University in 1988, Stijn van Els has held a range of technical, commercial and business leadership roles within Shell and its Joint Ventures.
He started his Shell career in manufacturing technology and in project roles in the Netherlands and Japan. Later in his career, he returned to manufacturing in Germany as Manufacturing & Maintenance Manager at the Rheinland refinery & petrochemicals site.
In between these years in Refining, he worked for seven years in the Upstream part of Shell, with assignments with Shell’s Gas Business in London, with Woodside in Perth, and as General Manager Commercial in Shell Development Australia. In mid 2006, he became Vice President Strategy, Portfolio and Opportunity Identification in the Upstream New Business Development team. From mid 2009 to mid 2012, Stijn was Executive Vice President for Shell's global Contracting and Procurement Function, one of the world’s leading procurement organisations.
In June 2012, he was appointed CEO (designate) of Al-Karaana, the proposed new Qatar Petroleum and Shell Petrochemicals Project under development in Qatar.
