Vikram Mehta
Chairman of Shell Companies in India
Vikram Mehta has been Chairman of Shell Companies in India since 1993. He graduated with an honours degree in Mathematics and went on to take his masters in Economics at Oxford University, followed by a degree in energy economics at Harvard. He returned to India to sit for the civil services examination in India and served government for three years before joining Phillips Petroleum and spending four years in the UK and USA.
He returned as Advisor to India's petroleum ministry for the next four years, before moving back to the private sector in 1988 where for five years he was Shareholder Representative on the Board of Shell Companies in South Asia, Middle East (Gulf plus Saudi Arabia), based out of London. In 1993, he moved back to head Shell's interests in India.
Vikram is married with two daughters and has been a tennis player but has now taken to golf for which he does not find enough time as he is busy lecturing and writing columns for various newspapers.
