Dan Carlson
General Manager New Business Development - Americas
Dan was appointed General Manager New Business Development Americas on 1 May 2011. In this role, Dan is responsible for identifying new business opportunities and deployment of gas to chemicals technologies in the Americas, including the proposed Appalachia petrochemical complex. Prior to this appointment Dan was General Manager Base Chemicals Americas, leading the team with responsibility for securing advantaged feedstocks for Shell’s US Gulf Coast olefin plants and for marketing all the light olefin (ethylene and propylene) cuts.
With more than 30 years’ experience in the chemicals industry, Dan has served in both regional and global roles ranging from business management, strategy development, new business development, product management, supply chain/customer service and sales. He started his career in Houston, but has also worked in Chicago, London and Chester, UK. His principal area of focus has been in support of the Base Chemicals and Higher Olefins and Derivatives (HODer) product lines.
Dan holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology. He is married and enjoys golf, fishing, Pilates and photography. He is also a founding member of The DarDans, a local Houston rock and roll band.
