| Principal activities | Scotford is a joint chemicals/refining site, called Scotford Manufacturing, with an adjoining bitumen upgrader. The Shell Manufacturing facility produces the full range of fuels for the Western Canadian market. It also manufactures styrene monomer and monoethylene glycol (MEG). Styrene monomer is sold to customers in North America for the manufacture of a variety of commercial and consumer products such as cassette/CD cases, food containers, home insulation, safety helmets and car interiors. Monoethylene glycol is primarily sold to customers in North America for use in making products such as polyester fibers, plastic drinking bottles, adhesives and inks. The site is highly integrated from the bitumen upgrading units, through the oil products refining units and finally, the chemicals products units. |
