If you're considering a career with Shell, it's worth knowing the key attributes that our recruiters look for in candidates. Have a look at the following videos from Joanne Neild, a senior leader in Human Resources, who shares her insights into the Shell recruitment mindset. Take a look at Joanne’s three top tips videos, then search for your ideal role within Shell.

Whether you are a recent graduate or experienced in your field of work, if you want a career with Shell you’ll need to show you have what it takes to get the job done. Your recruiter will also be looking at how you get the job done, and how you work with others.

Although each job is different, Joanne shares some of the common competencies which Shell and other employers could be looking out for.

Energy, curiosity and desire

“You’ll need to be able to think on your feet because, despite the perception that big organisations move slowly, we often find that factors in your consideration move quickly and you’ll need to respond accordingly,” says Joanne.

“One thing’s for sure, we’re going to throw lots of opportunities your way, so you have to have the energy, the curiosity and the desire to really get stuck into complex problems.”

It doesn’t matter whether you are applying for the Shell Graduate Programme or a professional role, being able to demonstrate leadership skills matters.
