Mr. Pranabesh Roy and Mr. R. P. Singh from the Chanderiya Unit presented the project titled A Technological Approach to Attain Sustainable Solutions for SO2 Recovery, which has been conferred the award of Innovative Environmental Project by a panel of eminent judges, at the CII Environmental Best Practices Award 2012 held on 9 and 10 February 2012 at CII – Sohrabji Godrej Green Business Centre, Hyderabad.

Hindustan Zinc started-up a Cansolv unit in 2005 to treat flue gas from its Lead Smelting operation in Chanderiya, India.

The Cansolv plant treating flue gas from Ausmelt Lead Smelter of Unit I of Chanderiya Smelting Complex, had won the Innovative Environmental Project award.

Since 2011, CII has been organizing this annual National Award to applaud the efforts of industry in implementing the best practices in the areas of pollution prevention, waste management, material conservation and recycling, etc.

Out of more than 300 projects from more than 100 organizations, 27 projects were short-listed for this award in 2012.

This award is the recognition of significant and measurable contribution of Chanderiya Smelting Complex of HZL towards development and use of clean technologies that prevent pollution and find innovative solutions to establish a greener environment.
