How are we forcing ourselves to do more with existing technology?

As part of our commitment to continuous improvement, we have learned from operations to push performance limits. With ADIP ULTRA*, we have significantly upgraded the solvent performance which offers a step change to the industry’s CO2 removal capability.

By analysing proven operational performance through historical data, performance test runs, etc. combined with de-risking for improved modelling capabilities we can deliver more efficient designs with stable operation.

The below figure represents a few case studies based on comparing the revised ADIP ULTRA designs with the previous designs used for ADIP-X. Shown are dramatic reductions in circulation rate and energy consumption. This results in smaller equipment overall in the unit leading to reduced CAPEX and OPEX.

Features of ADIP ULTRA

The end result is a sharper design that can accomplish the following:

  • CO2 removal capacity increased up to 25%
  • Up to 30% reduction in regeneration energy
  • Up to 30% reduction on equipment costs, increasing project NPV
  • Reduced circulation rates
  • More throughput
  • Ability to handle more challenging gas

All of these improvements result in dramatic reductions in CAPEX for greenfield units or increase capacity and capability for brownfield units.

Additional Services

  • The technology can come with a range of service offerings such as proactive monitoring, training and troubleshooting.
  • A comprehensive solvent monitoring programme conducted by a Shell in-house laboratory is available, enabling you to leverage operational experience to maintain solvent quality.

Shell’s experience

ADIP technology has a long history in Shell. First developed in the 1950s and with over 500 Shell operating facilities and licensees, it is our most referenced technology to date. ADIP technology has established a track record of high levels of performance and reliability.
