Beypiliç A.Ş., a Turkish food processing company, switched from standard diesel without fuel economy formula to Shell FuelSave Diesel for its entire transportation fleet of nearly 300 heavy duty trucks.

The performance of Shell FuelSave Diesel was monitored in 45 trucks of Beypiliç’s fleet during daily working conditions over a period of six months. This has demonstrated the fuel saving benefit of Shell FuelSave Diesel:

  • Approximately 2% reduction in fuel consumption, average across the monitored vehicles and compared to the same period of the previous year when standard diesel without fuel economy formula was used.
  • Lower CO2 exhaust emissions resulting from the reduced fuel consumption.

Extrapolated across the entire fleet, this could potentially mean:

  • Approximate average fuel savings of 85,000 litres (or approximate fuel cost savings of $180,000) annually1.
  • 224 tonnes less CO2 exhaust emissions which equals to the total annual CO2 exhaust emissions of around 89 passenger cars2.

Fuel expenditure is one of the main elements in our operating costs, with around 5% share in these costs. Therefore consuming even one litre less fuel is quite a significant saving for us. We tested the performance of Shell FuelSave Diesel for six months, we saw that the same vehicles used roughly 2% less fuel compared to the same period last year when running on standard diesel without fuel economy formula. The saving is even more impressive since during the months of testing our vehicles were often stuck in traffic due to maintenance of roads and bridges in Istanbul, thus making the running of the engine less efficient due to frequent stops.

1 Based on the average mileage covered annually by Beypiliç’s transport fleet, fuel price of 4TL/lt and exchange rate of 1.8TL/1USD

2 1 litre of diesel combusts to approximately 2.63 kg CO2. In the study “Shell Passenger Car Scenarios”, Shell Germany, 2009, the average annual mileage of a passenger car is referenced as12,500 km at 7.8 lt/100 km.
