Shell Bitumen recently supplied its solutions for Frankfurt Airport’s Centre Runway maintenance project earlier this year.
Shell continues to invest and grow its bitumen business in Europe, as many smaller players continue to slow operations due to tough market conditions.
From 29 September 2015, Shell General Manager of Bitumen Technology, Professor John Read, begins his tour of four of Asia’s fastest growing economies – Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia and the Philippines, where he will present the latest insights in bitumen technology to key stakeholders, including government ministers, airport operators and contractors. These insights are part of the latest updates featured in the Shell Bitumen Handbook, Sixth Edition, authored by John and his team of Shell bitumen experts.
Last night, at the Radisson Blu Hotel, Istanbul Sisli, Shell Bitumen accepted the 2015 Global Road Achievement Award for Research from the International Road Federation (IRF). The awards ceremony was attended by thought leaders from across the industry and fellow award winners including the UAE Ministry of Public Works, CECI Engineering Consultants, the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs & Trade and the Indonesian Directorate General of Highways, Ministry of Public Works and Housing. Frank Beer, Shell Bitumen’s Regional Technical Manager, Europe & Africa, accepted the award on behalf of the Shell Bitumen team.
Shell Bitumen has completed the resurfacing of Lanzhou’s airport expressway, connecting Lanzhou Zhongchuan Airport to the city centre, almost 70 kilometres away. The newly built expressway was formally launched on 2 July 2015, after a successful onsite inspection by a 100-member contingent from the Gansu Expressway Bureau, led by the Deputy Director of the Gansu Communications Department, as well as road bureau directors from14 cities in Gansu province and engineering experts in June 2015.
Shell Bitumen has been named the winner of the 2015 Global Road Achievement Awards (GRAA) by the International Road Federation (IRF) in the research category for its bitumen odour-neutralising product, Shell Bitufresh.
Shell has once again demonstrated its commitment and leadership in bitumen technology by publishing a sixth edition of the Shell Bitumen Handbook. The handbook is considered by many in the industry as the definitive guide to asphalt paving technology. Today, it is used as a key reference by contractors and civil engineers around the world.
In 2011, the Indonesian government set up its Master Plan for Acceleration and Expansion of Indonesia Economic Development (MP3EI) which included the establishment of reliable infrastructure to support the increased activity associated with the rapid urbanisation in Indonesia.
