All of us can use energy more efficiently to help meet rising energy demand and manage our CO2 emissions.
Energy-efficient lubricants for vehicles mean improved fuel economy. When we developed our latest lubricant, Shell Rimula R6 LME, our technology challenge was to formulate an oil with low viscosity to reduce friction in the engine with the same protective benefits of more viscous oil which produces a thicker protective film on engine parts.
Our solution was to use oils more resistant to thinning at high temperatures, with “anti-wear boosters” that act like microscopic springy balls to hold the metal surfaces apart and reduce friction.
Cleaner engines with less friction are more fuel efficient. Our fuel economy formula – now used in our unleaded petrol range – prevents the build-up of engine deposits and reduces friction in parts of the engine hard to lubricate, helping to improve efficiency. The formula results from decades of our scientific research and testing.
