Award re-enforces Shell’s commitment to the region
Accepting the award at a Dubai ceremony in June, Richard Jory, Regional General Manager, Shell Aviation, Middle East, South and Central Asia, and Africa, said: “We are delighted to win a prestigious regional award for the second time in a row as the best aviation fuel provider, especially as it is based upon customer votes.”
Commitment to future growth
Shell has been present in the UAE for 75 years, and has been a partner of Dubai International Airport supplying fuel to aviation customers for nearly 40 years. Shell continues to supply aviation fuel to customers at Dubai Airport thus supporting Dubai’s future growth.
Shell has a strong track record of delivery and innovation in Dubai; improved bitumen for the runways, specially formulated jet fuel, Shell AeroJet, for business jets, and even the next generation of high performance turbine engine oil, AeroShell Ascender, launched by Neil Armstrong in 2009 at the last Dubai Airshow.
AeroShell Ascender’s technologically advanced formulation was developed to address increasing demands on turbine engines resulting from higher operating temperatures and extended operating time periods between overhauls. It delivers critical performance benefits such as low coking propensity, high resistance to oxidation and thermal degradation, and excellent elastomer compatibility. These could in turn help to extendcomponent life, and cut maintenance and operational costs for the airline. The innovative lubricant formulation has just completed six-months of successful flight operations with Brazil’s TAM airlines.
This diversified product portfolio has enabled Shell Aviation to become a one-stop destination for all fuel and lubricant requirements, servicing a range of fleet engine types such as the TurboJet, TurboFan or Turboprop engines.
Sustainable and innovative air travel has also been a major advocacy of Shell Aviation. In 2009, the company developed and produced the 50-50 blend of synthetic Gas to Liquids (GTL) kerosene and conventional oil-based kerosene fuel used in the world’s first commercial passenger flight powered by fuel made from natural gas.
Last year, Shell Aviation signed several Concession Agreements to operate as a fuel supplier in major airports throughout the world including new Dubai World Central-Al Maktoum International Airport. It also expanded its operations into 12 airports across India to provide airlines fuel at airports.
Safety is a must for Shell, which is why it has implemented comprehensive internal programmes to ensure the safe transport of its products. It requires in-vehicle monitoring systems or IVMS for all its heavy-goods vehicles; upholds Mandatory Road Safety Standards for Shell employees and contractor staff; provides Defensive Driving Training for all its professional drivers; and manages a global Road Safety Expertise Centre which shares knowledge and best practices internally.
