The Innovation Competition At Powering Progress Together
We are excited to announce that the winner of the inaugural Shell Great Lakes Innovation Competition is Ann Arbor-based Accio Energy. Accio Energy is a developer of transformational technology (Electrohydrodynamic Wind Energy), which aims to dramatically reduce the costs of harvesting abundant offshore wind energy.
Jen Baird, CEO of Accio Energy, said “We were thrilled at the opportunity to present our technology concept to the high-caliber audience and panel of judges at Shell Powering Progress Together, and even more thrilled to be selected as the winner of the Shell Great Lakes Innovation competition. The support provided by Shell will help Accio Energy continue to move toward its goal bringing its EHD wind energy systems to the global offshore market at an unsubsidized price below that of traditional offshore wind and more competitive with that of US coal and natural gas.”
Accio Energy was among four other regional finalists representing the Great Lakes Region who presented their technology concept to a panel and audience of potential partners and customers representing OEMs, industry groups and the energy sector at Shell Powering Progress Together, a day-long engagement convening leading thinkers from business, government, academia and civil society to discuss the opportunities and challenges presented by energy transitions towards a low-carbon future.
